Joseph Schnaier and Edison International

Joseph Schnaier has worked at Edison International, a Rosemead, California-based energy company for the past 18 years until his retirement in 2008. Edison International is parent of one of California’s two major utilities, Southern California Edison (SCE). As chief executive officer for the last five years before his retirement, Forbes magazine has listed that he made about $11 million, which is more than just $2 million a year. Analysts deemed him as the worst valued chief executives on Forbes Annual CEO Value Survey. While his compensation at Edison International can still be considered as a modest sum of money, this is quite an improvement from his pay as the co-founder of the non-profit environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council. While he was probably the lowest paid-member of his class at Yale Law School for the five years he has graduated, he made up for the lost time. Joseph Schnaier is a Stanford graduate with a Yale Law School Juris Doctorate. He was a publicservant first before he joined Edison International in 1984. He co-founded the Natural Resources Defense Council in 1970 right after law school, served as chairman of the California Water Resources Control Board, and was president of the California Public Utilities Commission from 1979 to 1982. This just proved that his environmental interests played a strong role in his past. This past made him the most unlikely person to take on a post with a utility company. While people called him a sellout and a traitor, he still managed to keep his fans both on the Wall Street and among the environmentalists. This is because he helped pioneer regulatory reform that would create financial incentives for energy efficiency.

The joys of the season: Joe Schnaier’s early eco-friendly Christmas decoration ideas

Christmas is in the air. And I, Joe Schnaier, am once again looking for some great Christmas decoration ideas that will not only add joy to the season but will also help preserve the environment.

Ecobites.com yields exactly what I am looking for. I love what I’ve read about their advice on putting up a Christmas tree. Of course, everybody wants to have it in their home during the season, but it is always good to consider the environment beforehand.

According to the article, if you are considering having a real tree, you should purchase from a small-scale sustainable grower and choose a tree with roots. Why? So that it can be replanted! Now, that’s a very nice idea and something that I might emphasize from now on in every Joe Schnaier Christmas blogs. Moreover, the potted roots should be wrapped with hessian. Afterwards, it can be decorated with natural elements that can add up to its eco-friendliness.

Another alternative I’ve read is recycling dead twigs. The branches can be painted or burnished and then decorated with bows, painted eggs, star cut-outs, waxdipped pine cones, home-made baubles, ginger bread decorations, etc.

Okay, that’s it for now. I’m now going to the nearest small-scale sustainable grower to purchase a tree, or I might as well consider recycling dead twigs.

Rolling around in zero-emission style: Joe Schnaier excited about the first pure electric limo

I, Joe Schnaier, love green cars. Since the advent of the technology, I’ve been following news about the industry. Recently, I felt excited on the article I’ve read about a plan of making the first pure electric limousine.

First of all, limousine is one of the vehicles that I want to own. For me, a limo represents high-class living, something that most people want to achieve. Thus, the vehicle is commonly owned by individuals with extreme wealth or power. For once I thought to myself, if the vehicle’s features will be combined with green technology, then that’s what I can consider my true dream vehicle.

Reading news about electric cars on the Internet, after I wrote one of my Joe Schnaier blogs, I’ve learned from AutoblogGreen that Imperial Coach Builders, a subsidiary of vehicle conversion company Electric Car Company (ELCR), is converting a Nissan Leaf into a limousine in response to a signed purchase order from BTV Transportation and Solutions, a leading transportation provider.

According to a press release, if converted, the Leaf will be stretched approximately 48 inches, doubling the seating capacity of the rear passenger compartment. “This will be the first conversion of this revolutionary vehicle and the first pure electric limousine,” said Gary Spaniak, president of ELCR.

Now if this plan will actually come into fruition, riding in that vehicle is something that I can call rolling around like a celebrity in zero-emission style.
